Parent

Parenting Team:

In Shropshire, we recognise how important the role of parents and carers is, and how difficult that role can be without the knowledge of appropriate strategies that can be used to support with everyday parenting challenges. The Parenting Team offers a variety of services to parent carers with children with SEND.

Sleep Tight Workshops:

The Parenting Team is delivering five-week ‘Sleep Tight’ workshops. These have been developed by The Sleep Charity, and our parenting practitioners have been trained to deliver these to parents and carers. If you would like to meet other parents/carers and explore how you can support your children and your family to have quality sleep or to address specific challenges you are experiencing, these workshops are for you

Early Help

The Early Help Front Door Service is a single point of contact for partner agencies, children, young people and their families, focused on making sure that the right support is put in place as soon as it is needed. Early Help is designed to provide assistance when challenges arise, and respite support can offer you a break when needed. To access these services, please contact https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/early-help/ or phone 0345 678 9021 for the Early help team.

Short breaks are a range of opportunities, for children aged from 0 to their 18 birthday with disabilities (or additional needs that could be linked to a disability) that live in Shropshire.

They are specifically designed to enable children and young people with disabilities to participate in activities and opportunities. They take place after school, at weekends, during school holidays or overnight. They can provide activities such as after school clubs, weekend activities, sports, youth groups, drama groups, holiday clubs and overnight stays with a short break foster carer or in a residential home.

Some Short Breaks might also involve assistance in the home in the evening, at weekends or during the school holidays. https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/the-send-local-offer/social-care/childrens-social-care/short-breaks-for-disabled-children/

Healthier Together - a Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Initiative

Healthier Together provides advice for parents, young people and pregnant women, as well as clinical resources to support healthcare professionals – which means that your child can receive consistently high-quality care, irrespective of which healthcare professional they see.

As a parent, career or guardian, you'll find clear information on common childhood illnesses for both physical and mental health, including advice on what 'red-flag' signs to look out for, where to seek help if required and how long your child's symptoms are likely to last.

The Healthier Together programme is a community initiative that relies upon patients and healthcare professionals working together to improve how local healthcare is delivered.
